Book Description:

This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They’re even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation.

Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet.

It’s too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney’s heartbroken, but she figures she can tough it out for a few days. La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care.

But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.

Turns out, he’s got a secret or two that he’s not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can’t get back together and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

A quote:

He takes the last bite of his burger and licks his lips again. Can he STOP DOING THAT? Really, how much can one person lick his lips?

Any thoughts:

  • This novel, I swear to you, got me smiling from beginning to end, laughing and giggling over the silliest things, crying during the sad parts and rooting for Courtney and Jordan. It’s one of a kind, this novel. And I truly loved it!
  • First off, it’s written in Courtney and Jordan’s points of views. In addition to that, it goes back to the past every other chapter so you get to read about how they met and understand the secret Jordan’s been hiding. They’re very different characters, but I love them together.
  • There’s a lot of swearing, just to warn you. It most often comes from a character named B.J., Jordan’s best friend, but the way he talks always makes me laugh. I think he’s got to be my favourite character in the novel. He’s the comedic relief.
  • The plot is very original. I haven’t heard of a story like this one so it got me intrigued the moment I read the description.
  • I noticed that a lot of the characters do a lot of analyzing. For example, Jocelyn (Courtney’s best friend) would tell Courtney why it’s a bad thing to be dating Jordan, and also Courtney, for thinking about what she should act like so that Jordan wouldn’t think she’s mad at him for breaking up with her. You know, those kinds of things. It’s not bad; I just think it’s interesting because I do the same thing. Haha.
  • Needless to say that I read this book in a few hours - 4 hours and a half, to be exact - this book was honestly hard to put down. I just didn’t know when to stop! I did once, actually, but that didn’t work out. After ten minutes, I picked it up again and continued from there. I’m telling you, it was hard.
  • Oh, and the cover! I love it - the colour, the setting, the car and everything! From the picture, you can only see the girl, but the back of the book shows the front half of the car with its hood up, and a guy trying to fix something. It’s pretty neat and I really like it. I’d give it 5 stars, the cover I mean. ;)
  • I don’t know what else to say...other than I enjoyed it a lot and that I’m looking forward to read other novels by Lauren Barnholdt.
